Oh! Men! If you want to seek His tiruvaDi who swallowed the sky, kula parvatas, vast Boomi, roaring sea etc. and lies on a tiny young banyan leaf, go to tirunaraiyoor. It is a beautiful city with SeNbaga trees whose aromatic flowers the bees smell and sit on the vakuLa flower. This temple is served by the chOLa king sembiyan kO sengaNAn. Like toNDamAn of tiruvallikkENi, king pallava mallaiyarkOn of paramEchchura viNNaharam, king vayira mEGan of aTTabuyakaram and like nandivarma of nandipura viNNaharam, this tirupati is served by chOLa king sembiyan kO sengaNAn.

tirunaraiyoor maNi mADam—tirumangai AzhwAr in his periya tirumaDal says ‘irumpozhil Soozh mannu naraiyoor tirunaraiyoor mA malai pOl ponniyalum mADam’ and also ‘tennaraiyoor mannu maNimADa kOyil maNALanai’. So it appears tirunaraiyoor nambi’s temple is called maNimAdakkOyil (tirunAngoor maNimADa kOyil is different).

Oh! Men! If you want to resort His tiruvaDi who took a huge fish form and played in the deluge water jumping from the top of mEru mountain reaching aNDaBitti, swimming the whole length and breadth of the water—go to tirunaraiyoor where He resides. This divya dESa was the favourite place of chOLa king sembiyan kO sengaNAn. It is a wealthy city since river kAvEri brings along the current logs of sandal wood trees, ahil trees and precious gems scattering them in the fields from where people carry them home. It shows the greatness of the king too who has made the city very prosperous.

emberumAn , the sarvESwara, wears the sea as His peetAmbara, the vast Boomi as His tiruvaDi, the vAyu as tirumEni, the directions as eight arms, and aNDas as His crown. Thus He stands revealing His viSwa roopa. Oh! Men! If you want to go and worship Him, go to tirunaraiyoor where He resides. The chOLa king who defeated the foes at veNNi where they waged war with him with four kinds of armies—does kainkarya to Him at tirunaraiyoor.

The expression maNi muDimEl kAhamEra means the kings were killed in the battle for the crows to eat the corpses.

Oh! Men! If you want to seek His tiruvaDi go to tirunaraiyoor where He resides. The city is under the rule of chOLa king sengaNAn who defeated his foes (who marched to the battle field at veNNi on huge mad elephants) riding on a horse. The king did kainkarya to that emberumAn who took narasimha avatAra, tore the chest of hiraNyAsura with His sharp shining nails and caused the blood to flow like flood from His body.

Oh! Men! If you want to seek the tiruvaDi of Him and be His guests go to tirunaraiyoor and worship Him. It is He who measured the three worlds with just two feet as trivikrama and who took the extraordinary man-lion form in order to kill hiraNya (and sent him to veeraswarga). The city where He resides is wealthy with ponni river bringing in her currents gold, precious gems and deposit them on the banks, further flows to irrigate the lands and spreading her arms far and wide. The chOLa king sengaNAn did kainkarya to this BagavAn. He because of His grace, ruled both the northern and southern India.

emberumAn is called sarvESwara since He is the Lord of all and there is none to lord over Him. He is not controlled by the karmas whereas even brahma and rudra etc. are controlled by their karmas. His swaroopa and stiti are as He ordains them for Himself. He has the leelA viBooti under His control (tayangoLi SEr moovulahum) and also the paramapada under His order (vAnAi). He does sustenance by His own swaroopa (viShNu) and creation and dissolution as the antaryAmi of brahma and rudra. He is born in AyarpADi for someone to call Him ‘He is my son’ by His own free will. He resides in tirunaraiyoor which is formed by the chOLa king, who conquered viLandai vEL (viLandai is the name of the place) in the war. He ruled over the southern part as well as the western region (kongunADu). Oh! Men! If you want to worship Him go to tirunaraiyoor—says AzhwAr.

The city tirunaraiyoor is rich because the river kAvEri brings in her current precious gems, gold etc. from the mountains when she descends to the land. King chOLa rules over this city and does kainkarya to the Lord. Here resides emberumAn who as Sree kriShNa drank the milk of pootana along with her life, grazed the herds of cattle playing on the flute made of leaf, ruled over dwAraka, robbed the bangles and the hearts of the AyarpADi girls. Oh! Men! Seek Him in tirunaraiyoor if you want to uplift yourselves.

emberumAn the consort of beautiful nappinnai pirATTi cut off the head and subdued the pride of kAtaveeryArjuna who was a great hero and won many battles. If you want to seek His tiruvaDi go to tirunaraiyoor which is resorted by chOLa king who had built nearly seventy Siva temples when he was a saivait. After he becomes a vaiShNava Bakta he did kainkarya to the deity of tirunaraiyoor.

It is said in dEvAram (a saiva prabandha) that the king was a spider in His previous birth. He was spinning a web in the ceiling over a Sivalinga which an elephant used to destroy everyday. In this janma the spider was born as a king and built many Siva temples (so that no elephant can destroy them). sEkkizhAr in periya purANam says ‘sengaNAn andamil Seer sONATTilaha nADutOrum aNiyAr chandiraSEharan amarum tAnangaL pala samaittAn’.

irukkilanga tirumozhi vAi—It is said Siva always chants puruSha sookta etc. of vEdas.

periyavAchchAn piLLai Sree sookti— ‘The chOLa king not finding any fulfillment even after building so many temples for Siva finally found it after worshipping emberumAn of tirunaraiyoor’.

emberumAn wears a garland to show ‘I am the only one who is the rakShaka of both viBootis (nitya viBooti and leelA viBooti). He resides in tirunaraiyoor proclaiming His jagat rakshakatva. He is the consort of poomahaL (Sree dEvi) and is eulogized by SanKa and others who are always immersed in brahmaBAva. His thousand names speaks of the glories. Like one who wants to take bath in a river can do so at any place along the banks, so also can one choose any name out of the thousands that suits his taste. If anyone wants to experience His greatness should come to tirunaraiyoor.

The chOLa king was said to have defeated his foes at veNNi. Now in this pASura AzhwAr says he defeated those proud kings who called themselves ‘i am so and so’ in tiru tErazhundoor

tirumangai AzhwAr, the lord of tirumangainADu, has sung these ten pASuras on emberumAn residing at tirunaraiyoor. There are Sree vaiShNavas in this diyva dESa who have learnt all the four vEdas and who speak truth always. Those who sing these pASuras too will be honoured by the nityasooris in paramapada and certainly will not go to yamalOka, undergo the tortures there.
